Privacy Policy
The short version
- A camp's page is public: anyone with the link can see it.
- We keep what you enter and what you post, and count visits without IP addresses.
- We don't sell your data or show ads.
- Contact us to delete your account or a camp.
Who we are
Trailmark (trailmark.run) is made by Switchback Labs. This policy says what Trailmark collects, who can see it and what we do with it.
What anyone with the link can see
A camp's page shows anyone who has its address: the runner's name, pronouns, distance, start, goal and pace plan, bib, color and look, Strava link, hashtag, notes, crew rules and sign-off message. If the camp adds a race-day contact, their name and phone number show too.
It also shows crew updates (signed with the poster's name and crew label), splits, cheers and check-ins (with the name and avatar people pick).
Listed camps also appear on the public race page, with their runner, plan, splits, and recent updates, cheers and check-ins.
Your account
We keep your email, your name, your look (appearance) choice, the camps you own or crew and your crew label on each, the runners you follow and how much you hear about each, and which version of the Terms you agreed to and when.
Each sign-in keeps a session: which address it's for and when it was last used. If a camp's owner adds you as crew, we make an account for your email and email you once to say so.
A camp
We keep everything its owner and crew enter: the runner's name, pronouns, distance, start, goal and pace plan, bib, color and look, Strava link, notes, crew rules, and the race-day contact's name and phone. With a bib, we pull that runner's official splits from the race's public live results.
Posts
- Crew updates (signed with your name and crew label) and splits, linked to your account.
- Messages from the runner's iPhone Shortcut, for the crew to check (the last 200).
- Cheers, replies and check-ins, with the name you type and an avatar. Emoji reactions, with your browser's ID.
- "Coming out to watch?" answers: the page shows only how many are coming; the camp's crew see the names.
Visits
Your browser makes up a random ID the first time you open a guide. With it we record each visit: phone, tablet or computer, its model and browser (from the browser's user agent, like "iPhone · Safari"), the website that sent you, which share link you came from, and whether you opened it from your Home Screen.
We also count what people do on a guide (share, follow, cheer, open a notification, share a story card, change the look), with that ID, and your account if you're signed in. Live-now counts are kept in memory only. The camp's crew see these numbers.
No IP address is stored with visits.
IP addresses
We keep your IP address with each sign-in code you ask for and each time you start a camp, to limit abuse. Elsewhere, Trailmark uses it for a moment to slow down floods of requests, and doesn't store it.
Our hosting and Cloudflare keep ordinary request logs, including IP addresses, for a short time.
Notifications
If you turn notifications on, we keep the push address and keys your browser gives us and your choices. For a camp, we also keep your browser's ID, so replies to your cheers reach you. If you're signed in, the notifications are linked to your account.
Errors
When something breaks, an error report goes to Sentry, from our server or your browser. Our server also sends Sentry its logs and a sample of performance data. Before any of it is sent we remove cookies, what you typed, and sign-in links, keys and emails in page addresses. Our server's reports also leave out your IP address. A report can still include the page address, your browser and what went wrong.
Who helps us run Trailmark
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): our servers and database, in the United States.
- Cloudflare: carries every page and request.
- Resend: sends sign-in codes and crew invitations.
- Sentry: error reports.
- Apple, Google and Mozilla: deliver notifications to your device.
- Google Fonts and YouTube: some pages load fonts from Google, and a guide shows YouTube thumbnails. A video plays from YouTube only when you tap it.
We don't sell your data, share it for advertising or show ads. We share information if the law requires it.
Cookies and storage
One sign-in cookie, which only our server can read, and a small cookie that tells a camp's page to show the crew buttons. No ad or tracking cookies.
Your browser also keeps, on your device: its random ID, your runners, your look, the name you cheer with, your notification choices, what the page last loaded (so it works without signal), and posts waiting to send.
Deleting
To delete your account or a camp, contact us (below). A camp's crew can delete its updates and cheers any time. Clearing your browser's data for the site removes what's on your device.
Children
Trailmark isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and its date. A change that matters comes with new Terms, which you're asked to agree to again.
